Those with low vision can use the Kindle DX to read

ABC News chicago has a piece about Amazon Kindle DX being used by those with low vision. here's the video



The Kindle has text to speech functionality for the books but not the menu's or navigation. The Font can go as high as 18pt which from the looks of the video is a good size.

  1. I found this post very interesting. It’s great that Kindles are being used to improve the accessibility of text books. I’ve also heard of another similar system called DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) which overcomes many of the inadequacies of the Kindle, such as the addition of spoken menus. Unfortunately fewer books are available in this format. It would be really interesting to see a comparison of both systems. Has there been one? Does anyone know anything about this?

  2. I have read some about DAISY, but am not familiar enough with it to do a side by side comparison. I will do some more research and likely post a new article about DAISY sometime in the future.
